The movie of the Dominique Strauss-Kahn Scandal

By Dave McNary

Warner Bros. is developing The Libertine, a movie about the 2011 scandal surrounding French economist Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

The studio has acquired a script written by Ben Kopit, but hasn’t found producers for the project yet.

Strauss-Kahn became the managing director of the International Monetary Fund in 2007 with the backing of French president Nicolas Sarkozy. He resigned four years late following allegations that he had sexually assaulted a hotel employee.

The case against Strauss-Khan was not pursued due to credibility problems with the employee. A subsequent civil suit against him was settled out of court.

Warners’s Jon Gonda brought the project into the studio.

The scandal has already been made into a film with Welcome to New York, starring Gérard Depardieu as a character resembling Strauss-Kahn and Jacqueline Bisset as his wife.
